Jay Jerde
Jerde Designs is a small pottery studio out of Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin. Jerde Designs employs a combination approach of modern and innovative technologies in addition to traditional handwork, glazing, and finishing to produce unique pieces of ceramic art. They are not defined by any one specific style as they feel that would limit the scope and potential of their creativity, but instead prefer to draw inspiration from multiple sources, in many cases creating shapes that have never been seen before in ceramic art. They find joy in creating things that may
inspire those interested in STEM fields to create art beyond the traditional boundaries. Each piece is a unique collaborative composition between father and son duo, Jay and Tyler Jerde. Jay has been designing and building things all of his life in conjunction with his previous occupation as a residential architect and home builder. He also draws inspiration from his many hobbies including FPV Drone Racing, Recreational Aviation, Snow and Water Skiing, and Scuba Diving. Due to a life altering job-site injury in 2020, Jay has had time to delve into his creativity and vision, draw from his past experiences, and develop unique computer-designed ceramic forms. Jay designs, forms, hand-trims, and photographs each piece. Tyler has had an interest in art from the age of 11 where he learned to paint from his grandmother, Barb. He has dabbled in watercolor and acrylic art since and has a profound appreciation for experimental color and application techniques which has translated exceptionally well to his glaze work. Tyler does the majority of the glazing for Jere Designs as well as handles social media channels, marketing/selling and packaging/handling. |
