I am compelled to see beyond the represented surface and reveal something of the hidden nature. Things are not always the way they appear; there is always more, the veiled and submerged things that most of us hope will never be seen or discovered. To have them illuminated might create a sense of embarrassment, or worse, to necessitate a revision of the illusionary definition we have created about ourselves, our worth and motivations.
My work contains layers of information, whether natural or symbolic, conjoined with an encaustic technique to create a complex surface texture that echoes the passage of time in the natural processes of growth, blossom and decomposition.
