My work in clay is a steady development of artistic expression. While not following a specific subject line, my work creates a continuity of feeling through its form, color, and energy.
I like working with contrasting elements- smoothed versus textured surfaces, handbuilt versus thrown construction, glazed versus unglazed surfaces, and controlled versus altered forms. By combining and contrasting these elements, I try to produce work that has a sense of strength and stability, as well as a certain vitality and aliveness. Equally important is the satisfaction of creating pieces that can be enjoyed in daily use.
