Art can define a culture, give insight into time periods in human history, chronicle a journey through life. The relationship between the artists and viewer is an intimate one for sure whether or not that is the intent of either party.
I am a self taught artist. When I look at anything, a line, a swirl of ink, leaves in the trees I see images and patterns emerge. I try to capture what I see combined with what is in my minds eye, on paper or board, giving the viewer an opportunity to see what I see and perhaps for a brief moment to think what I think.
Do you remember looking at clouds when you were a child? Seeing a bunny, flower or whatever your heart desired? The game was always more fun when the vision was shared with a friend, or in my case, a sister. I remember pointing out the exact cloud, describing in detail where the bunny's ears were or where the flower's stem started.
My art is like that child's game except the things I see are not necessarily what my heart desires. They are just the things I see.
