“Growing up in an artistic household gives a child a unique perspective. I remember using pencils, crayons, chalk, clay, and paint as a toddler, guided by my artist-mother. To keep my sisters and I occupied through our childhood, we were never plopped in front of a television. Rather, out came the art supplies, with no restrictions on messes, and freedom to explore. What an environment for artistic development! It never entered my mind that this creative environment wasn’t part of every child’s growing-up years. Art was just part of being, like eating, sleeping, laughing, and loving.
Life gets busy. There is so much to do, places to go, people to see, chores, responsibilities, commitments. Sometimes I have to step back and make choices. What has always brought me contentment and happiness, through all of the twists and turns on this journey? Clearly, I need food, sleep, laughs, love, and art.”
